Krav Maga is a pure self defense and striking system. There are no competitions or showcases for self defense scenarios. We train in Krav Maga to help us avoid and survive the worst case scenarios. If someone is threatening your life, we train on how to avoid that scenario to begin with, and if it is already beyond the point of no return, we are trained to use the most effective strikes and techniques to prevail, while under extreme stress.
There are no elaborate choreographies nor absolutes. There are no uniforms and no traditions. We are not training you to show off or to fight, we are training you to control a situation, to save our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. and then one day we can 'All live in Peace'
Training in Krav Maga
No experience is necessary to begin Krav Maga. In the beginning, you will learn basic stances, striking, techniques for falling and getting up safely, and basic defenses against common attacks including chokes and headlocks. In addition to learning how to deal with an attack, you will train to perform better under stress and learn awareness and prevention techniques that will help keep you from getting into problematic situations. Eventually you will start learn the more advanced techniques including multiple attacks, uncontrolled situations(you learn to control), weapons, and major ground work.
Students of Krav Maga use basic moves in various combinations to fend off violent attacks. This means that students adjust to new situations through improvisation, an important and unique feature of this style. Of course, this requires using the “head” as well as the body, and thus Krav Maga addresses the thought process as well as the physical action.
Improvisation also allows for limitations in physical abilities. Not everyone can bring his or her leg up to a 180-degree angle, and therefore the system is geared towards the average person. Students are taught a variety of possible defensive reactions for each possible attack situation, building upon an actual framework of useable techniques. They are then encouraged to utilize the responses that are appropriate to their capabilities. This allows the student to develop a sense of confidence in their abilities.
Because physical fitness is closely interwoven into the system, the workout includes a number of cardiovascular and strength building exercises, as well as stretching to increase flexibility. Emphasis is put on speed, endurance, strength, accuracy and coordination, especially for intensive Krav Maga training.
Krav Maga is a style benefiting both the individual who seeks serious Self-Defense training as well as the practitioner seeking to round out prior martial art knowledge. The bottom line is that, it is a style that proves most effective against any type of assault.
Benefits of Krav Maga
Krav Maga is a very modern and innovative style of Self-Defense. This system has been continually refined and developed in light of actual modern combat and Self-Defense experience. Practitioners of the style incorporate new lessons learned to improve the style’s techniques, encouraging individual student’s creativity.
Through constant practice and repetition, the most effective defenses against each kind of assault become almost second nature and automatic, so that in actual “street” confrontations they will be immediately utilized. By emphasizing and practicing a few key defense techniques for each assault the style is able to consider a wide range of defense options hardly ever found in other styles, making Krav Maga a complete fighting system.
